E-mail Foreword by Martin Baillie These paintings by Allan Black in their intensity of saturated blue green, yellow and red, and amorphous but insistent shapes, come down heavily on the side of structure. In 'Glencoe' and 'Rannoch Moor' the representation is clear enough though not offered in illusionistic terms, but in others, e.g. 'Shoreline' or 'Celtic Sunrise' the pungency of the colour contrasts and the shapes pressed to the surface in denial of space, seem to break free of the very scene they delineate - an ambiguity one may find disturbing, or satisfying, or possibly both." |
